Getting older doesn't mean
getting weaker
After 50, your body loses up to 10% of its muscle mass and bone density every decade without intervention. Clinical exercise programming doesn't just slow this decline. It reverses it. At Beachside EP, we help adults from their 60s through to their 90s stay strong, stay independent and stay doing the things that matter.

What Happens to Your Body After 50
The biology of ageing and why exercise is the most powerful intervention available
Ageing involves real, measurable biological changes that begin earlier than most people realise and accelerate without intervention. Understanding what is happening gives you the clearest possible reason to act.
What We Do
Clinical exercise programming for strength, independence and longevity
Every program at Beachside EP starts with a thorough assessment of where you are right now, your current strength, balance, mobility, health conditions and goals. We prescribe exercise that is appropriate for your body today and progressive enough to make a real difference over time.
Progressive strength trainingThe single most important intervention for healthy ageing. Building and maintaining muscle mass preserves metabolic health, protects joints, reduces falls risk and keeps you capable of the activities you value.
Balance and falls preventionSpecific balance training, reactive stepping and gait work to address the neuromuscular deficits that predict falls, before a fall happens rather than after.
Bone density preservationWeight-bearing and resistance exercise targeting the hip, spine and wrist, the sites most vulnerable to osteoporotic fracture, to slow bone loss and reduce fracture risk.
Cardiovascular healthAerobic programming to maintain heart health, blood pressure, cholesterol and energy levels, all of which decline with age but respond well to structured exercise.
Functional independenceExercise that directly translates to the activities of daily life. Getting up from the floor, climbing stairs, carrying shopping, getting in and out of the car. Strength for real life, not just the gym.
Chronic disease managementMost older adults are managing one or more chronic conditions. We integrate diabetes, cardiovascular, osteoporosis, arthritis and other condition-specific programming into your overall plan.
Mobility and flexibilityMaintaining joint range of motion, posture and ease of movement, reducing the stiffness that accumulates with age and makes daily life harder and more effortful.
Program delivered via appYour exercise program is delivered through our app with clear videos and instructions so you can exercise confidently between sessions and track your progress over time.
Three Pillars
Strength. Balance. Independence.
Every healthy ageing program at Beachside EP is built around three interconnected goals. They are not separate. Building strength improves balance, better balance preserves independence, and maintained independence enables the continued exercise that sustains everything else.
Strength
Progressive resistance training that builds and maintains the muscle mass that declines with age. Stronger muscles protect joints, improve metabolic health, reduce fatigue, and provide the physical capacity that makes daily life feel easier and safer. We progress your training systematically. The body adapts at any age when the stimulus is appropriate.
Balance
Targeted neuromuscular training that addresses the specific balance deficits that predict falls. Single-leg stability, reactive stepping, gait mechanics and ankle strength are all addressed directly. We also identify and modify the environmental and footwear factors that contribute to falls risk in your everyday life.
Independence
Exercise that preserves your ability to live the way you choose. Getting up from the floor. Carrying groceries. Playing with grandchildren. Gardening. Travelling. Independence is not abstract. It is built from specific physical capabilities that we directly target, measure and progress in your program.
Who We See
Adults from their 60s through to their 90s
We work with older adults at every stage of later life and every level of current fitness. You do not need to already be active to start. You do not need to be healthy. You just need to be ready to begin.
A note on where you are starting from
We see patients who have not exercised in decades. We see patients managing four or five chronic conditions. We see patients in their 90s. We go at your pace, start where you are, and build progressively. There is no baseline fitness requirement to start a program at Beachside EP. Family members are always welcome to attend.
Your Program
What to expect from your first appointment
We take time. Older adults often have complex health histories, multiple conditions and specific goals that require a thorough first assessment. Your first appointment is unhurried and comprehensive.
Initial assessment, no rush
We review your health history, current conditions, medications, falls history, recent investigations and what you want to achieve. We assess your current strength, balance, mobility and functional capacity at a pace that suits you. Family members are welcome and often provide valuable context. This takes 45 to 60 minutes.
Program design around your life
We design a program that is realistic for your living situation, your energy levels and what you enjoy. We incorporate the activities you value, walking, gardening, swimming, and build the strength and balance that makes those activities safer and more sustainable. Your program is delivered via our exercise app with clear videos.
Supervised sessions at your pace
We supervise your exercise and monitor your response. We progress your program as your capacity improves, always within what your body can manage safely. On harder days we adapt. On good days we push. The approach is always individual, never generic.
Regular reviews with reports to your GP
We review your program at regular intervals and send written reports to your GP after every review, keeping your care team informed and your care plan coordinated. If your health changes or you are hospitalised, we adapt your program on return and work with your treating team to ensure continuity.
Funding and Rebates
Multiple funding options for older Australians
There are several ways to fund your exercise program at Beachside EP. Many older Australians are entitled to government funding they are not yet accessing. We help you understand your options.
My Aged Care — Support at Home
If you have a Support at Home package, Exercise Physiology can be funded under your Clinical Care or Independence Services budget.
CHSP — Commonwealth Home Support Programme
Entry-level government funded support for older Australians still largely independent at home. Exercise Physiology sessions can be funded through CHSP with a small client contribution.
Medicare CDM Plan
If you have a chronic condition managed by your GP, including diabetes, heart disease, osteoporosis or arthritis, you may be entitled to up to 5 subsidised EP sessions per year.
DVA Gold and White Card
DVA Gold Card holders have all clinically necessary Exercise Physiology sessions covered with no gap fee.
Private Health Insurance
Most extras policies cover Exercise Physiology. Check your policy for your annual limit and rebate amount.
Private
No referral needed. Book directly and pay privately. A great option while you wait for funding to be arranged.
Not sure which funding applies to you?
Call us on 0409 051 260 and we will help you work out which funding you are entitled to before your first appointment. Many of our older patients are accessing funding they did not know was available to them. It costs nothing to ask.
Common Questions
Healthy ageing program FAQs
I have not exercised in years. Is it too late to start?
No. The research on this is unambiguous. The body responds to resistance training and progressive exercise at any age, including in your 80s and 90s. The rate of adaptation may be slower than in younger people, but the direction is the same. We have seen patients in their late 80s make meaningful improvements in strength, balance and function within weeks of starting a supervised program. It is never too late to begin.
I am managing several health conditions. Can you still help?
Yes, and this is one of the most common presentations we see. Most older adults are managing multiple chronic conditions simultaneously. We are trained to account for the interactions between conditions and their treatments when designing your program. We work within your clinical context, not in spite of it. Your complex health history is not a barrier to starting exercise. It is precisely the reason clinical supervision matters.
I am worried about falling during exercise sessions. How do you manage this?
Falls safety during sessions is something we take seriously and plan for deliberately. We conduct a falls risk assessment at your initial appointment, design your program to build confidence progressively, supervise all sessions, and use appropriate supports and equipment. Many of our patients come to us specifically because they have already had a fall and want to prevent the next one.
Can my family member or carer come with me?
Absolutely and we encourage it. Family members and carers who understand your program can support your home exercise, notice changes in your function, and feel more confident assisting you with daily activities. They are welcome at every appointment and their involvement consistently improves outcomes for our older patients.
How do I access My Aged Care funding for Exercise Physiology?
If you already have a Support at Home package or CHSP services, contact your care coordinator and ask them to add Exercise Physiology at Beachside EP to your care plan. If you do not yet have aged care funding, call My Aged Care on 1800 200 422 to begin the assessment process. You can also call us and we will help you understand the process and what to expect.
Can I attend via telehealth?
Yes. Many of our older patients use telehealth for review appointments and program updates, particularly when travel is difficult. Initial assessments benefit from in-person attendance so we can properly assess your strength and balance, but we will advise you on the best option for your situation when you call to book.
